Aluminum Foil Tape
Aluminum Foil Tape is a high-performance pressure-sensitive tape made from a dead-soft aluminum foil backing coated with a solvent-based acrylic or synthetic rubber adhesive. It combines the reflective, conductive, and barrier properties of aluminum with instant-bonding adhesive technology, making it the standard solution for HVAC duct sealing, thermal insulation jacketing, EMI/RFI shielding, and vapor barrier repair.
Unlike plastic-based tapes, aluminum foil tape remains dimensionally stable under extreme temperature swings, reflects radiant heat, and blocks moisture vapor transmission — earning it a place in both construction crawlspaces and aerospace cleanrooms.
Detailed Introduction
Features:
- 100% Dead-Soft Aluminum Foil: Conforms tightly to irregular surfaces, elbows, joints, and corners without lifting or puckering.
- Vapor Barrier: Impermeable to moisture vapor (≤ 0.01 perm-in) — prevents condensation from penetrating insulated ducts and pipes.
- Radiant Heat Reflectivity: Highly reflective surface (≥ 88% reflectivity) redirects radiant heat, improving thermal insulation efficiency.
- Broad Temperature Range: Performs continuously from -30°C to +150°C (standard); up to +260°C (high-temp silicone adhesive grade).
- EMI/RFI Shielding: Conductive aluminum backing attenuates electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference in electronic enclosures.
- Flame Retardant: Self-extinguishing; meets UL 723 Class 1 / ASTM E84 for flame spread and smoke development.
- Tear Resistant: Aluminum backing resists tearing during installation; reinforced with fiberglass scrim in select grades.
- Weather & UV Resistant: Withstands outdoor exposure, sunlight, and ozone without degradation.
Applications:
- HVAC & Ductwork: Sealing joints, seams, and connections on sheet-metal ducts, flex ducts, and duct board.
- Thermal Insulation: Jacketing and sealing fiberglass, mineral wool, and foam insulation on pipes, ducts, and vessels.
- Vapor Barrier: Repairing punctures and overlaps in vapor retarder membranes in walls, attics, and crawlspaces.
- Refrigeration & Cold Storage: Sealing insulated panels, cold-room liners, and refrigeration lines.
- Automotive: Heat shielding near exhaust systems, engine bay repairs, intake pipe sealing.
- Electronics: EMI/RFI shielding gaskets, cable wrap, enclosure seam sealing.
- Aerospace & Marine: Lightweight heat shielding, moisture sealing in confined compartments.
